Start with your questions.
Ending your marriage and resolving its financial consequences are separate legal steps. Property division and alimony claims generally must be preserved before the absolute divorce judgment. An early conversation can help you identify the issues and deadlines in your situation.
01
Discuss living arrangements, access to financial records, immediate expenses, and concerns about your children before making commitments.
02
Consider parenting arrangements, support, debts, and whether a negotiated separation agreement could address your priorities.
03
Review pending claims, existing agreements, service of court papers, and what still needs to be resolved before judgment.
A divorce can bring several connected questions into focus at once. Who will stay in the home? How will parenting time work? What happens to a retirement account or a joint debt? We help you sort those questions into manageable decisions.
Some issues can be addressed through negotiation or an agreement. Others may require court proceedings. The appropriate approach depends on the facts, the other party’s position, and your objectives. Your consultation is a place to discuss those choices without assuming a particular outcome.
Ask the office how to share records securely. Please do not email sensitive case details.
Hatley Flowers Law Firm serves clients in Cumberland, Hoke, and Moore counties from our Fayetteville office at 912 Hay Street.
The court and filing location depend on your claim and circumstances. We can discuss those questions at your consultation.
For a typical North Carolina absolute divorce based on separation, spouses must live in different homes for at least a year and a day, with at least one intending the separation to be permanent. Either spouse must also meet the six-month North Carolina residency requirement.
Your spouse does not have to agree to an absolute divorce if the legal requirements are met. Proper service and the court process still matter. Agreement about the divorce also does not automatically settle support or property issues.
Waiting can cause you to lose important claims. Talk with an attorney before a divorce judgment is entered about preserving equitable distribution and alimony claims. Custody and child support are separate issues.
The firm’s Fayetteville office serves clients in Cumberland, Hoke, and Moore counties. Where a particular case should be filed depends on the type of claim and the applicable jurisdiction and venue rules.
A paid initial consultation gives you time with an attorney to discuss the questions affecting your family, finances, and next steps. You do not need to arrive with every answer.
Share your questions about children, support, property, or separation and the decisions you are facing.
Discuss your circumstances, relevant documents, and the options that may apply to your situation.
Ask how the firm may be able to help and what further representation would involve.
Before your appointment: Write down your main questions, gather relevant agreements or court papers, and follow the instructions in your confirmation.
Choose 30 minutes or one hour. If you are unsure which to book, call the office before scheduling.
The fee is for your initial consultation. Booking does not by itself engage the firm for ongoing representation.
Review the current appointment details, payment requirements, and cancellation policy in Acuity Scheduling before confirming.
